Muse – The 2nd Law (2012)

New Muse album. Haven’t been a fan of the last few albums. Think Black Holes was the last one that I enjoyed.

But saying that I really like this one. Don’t think its as over the top as the last one.

Really like the art work as well.

  1. Yeah this is pretty bloody good eh? It’s not like old Muse stuff – the down and dirty guitar sound. But I like it. It’s boring if a band just stays the same anyway.

  2. Yeah, this is a solid Muse album, although after a couple of listens it still isn’t blowing me away as most of their albums have done. There are certainly some good tracks on there (Madness, Supremacy and Follow Me) but I preferred the unashamedly over-the-top, dramatic and theatrical tempo of The Resistance. However Origin of Symmetry still remains the Muse high-water mark for me.

As Keef says its good to see them try new ways of making music and a few more listens may yet change my view.

  3. I listened to this album the minute it came out. I was a little mehhed by it, so I put it away. I fired it back up again about a month ago, and it’s been on steady rotation ever since. I like it quite a bit, even the attempts at dubstep. Less guitar-driven than this esteemed panel would prefer, I’m sure. But there’s nothing wrong with bands taking risks, right?

One thing that I must point out — IMHO “The 2nd Law” is the best mixed Muse album ever. This is something that’s always driven me nuts about this band: great tunes, amazing talent, but muddled production. Glad they got it right, finally.
