Longpigs – The Sun Is Often Out (1996)

Stu’s Album of the month for November

Mork recently shared Richard Hawley’s new album which I’ve had on heavy rotation ever since. It got me to thinking that I hadn’t listened to Longpigs (including a pre-Pulp Mr Hawley) for a while. I did so soon after and have to say that even 16 years after its release it still sounds great. It certainly got a thrashing from me during that long hot summer of 1996. This just so happened to coincide with my time living in Manchester during which the Euro 96 Championships were held. Gazza’s goal against Scotland aside, one of the very best summers!

I genuinely think that this is a classic Britpop album that probably didn’t get the recognition it deserved.
