Talking Heads “Stop Making Sense” (1984)

CBGB. 1975. The heart of the American Punk movement revolved around this small, disgusting space. Bands like The Ramones, Blondie, and Patti Smith co-existed and flourished. And so did art-rockers Talking Heads. Hard to believe, really, considering their style. They were kind of the original urban music hipsters.

I was never into Talking Heads growing up. I appreciated and respected them. But their style never grabbed me. That changed a couple of years ago, when a friend of mine and I, semi-buzzed, went to see “Stop Making Sense” at a local theater. I would advise you all, if you haven’t seen it already, to rent this movie. It will instantly make you a fan. Since that night, I’ve been accumulating their catalog, and can now appreciate their influence.

I would advise getting the expanded version of the album, which contains all the songs from the movie.

  1. Will definitely give it a go. Never been into them either. I should probably watch the film as you say.

Also, you may not write much on this blog Manny, but when you do you’ve very eloquent. 🙂
